UX != UI

UI & UX seems to be a real misconception in the field of computer and technology. In many a cases, we tend to use these terms interchangeably not realizing the underlying concept. The confusion may simply stem up due to overlap of skill-sets involved in both the disciplines or may be because both of them relates to user.

UX - is designing the flow and means for catering products/services to the customers
UI - is designing a platform for customers to experience the UX designed for them

UI designers tend to focus more on the creative side, branding, and visual appeal. UX designers focus on site architecture, page layout, focus and actionable items for each page — including the availability of other resources and content, whether a pop-up or a tab is more appropriate, and so forth. Moreover, they get into a detailed research about the business (requirements + stakeholders) and decides on flow of the concept to be followed for catering products/ services to customers.

The quality of a user’s experience influences that person’s level of trust and confidence in the business and compels them to act (or not act). The interface, in turn, gives them a means to act. In other words,while the UI is a point of interaction, UX is the interaction itself. Hence, the UI can be a component of UX, but many user experiences don't have UIs. So,it may also be described as a process for synthesizing and strategizing the solution even without an interface.

It is very rightly said “UX is the intangible design of a strategy that brings us to a solution.” It takes a lot of behind the scenes work to end up at a capable, elegant, and delightful interface. It’s a huge strategic process that aims to create a product or website that customers are drawn to, find easy to use, and quickly understand.

A few of them also understand it in a way that UX designers create wire frames  clickable models, paper prototypes or even sketches whereas UI designers create the aesthetics for same. Whereas these wire frames and sketches are similar to blue prints and a user experience designer does way more than just drawing them. Generally, both UI and UX designers work together throughout the process, but their area of concerns and goals are totally different. They have their individual roles and responsibilities which complement each other irreplaceably. These equations might make it more crisp in terms of understanding : UX = Research + Design, UI = Design + HTML/CSS/JS
